Aprils Past
Frosty mornings, sunny afternoons.
Two stakes and kite line.
Garden plowed, disc, and tilled.
Align the rows, must be straight.
Push plow down, align, and return plow up.
Bushels of seed potato.
Sitting on the tailgate, or perhaps an old metal lawn chair.
Cutting into quarters or thirds, perhaps even halves on the small ones.
Dropping into the rows, literally a foot a part, stepping into soil, covering and moving on.
Largest plot of garden. Feed many mouths for many months, come harvest time.
Aprils past.
