Mamaw’s Quilt

Ribbons, blue and red and white, adorn brightly colored, intricately sewed, beautiful quilts on display in the exhibition hall at the Indiana State Fair. In contrast, a heavy utilitarian quilt lays upon the cold linoleum floor of an old farmhouse. Durable, some even rough, dark in color, patches securely sewed together provides comfort and insulation as the boy watches Marshall Dillion once again keep the peace in Dodge City. As the concluding theme music begins to play, he drags the heavy, old quilt into the shutoff front bedroom to provide warmth while he sleeps. His Mamaw’s quilt wouldn’t ever be awarded any ribbons, but, to him it is the most beautiful, priceless quilt ever made.
