Semper Fidelis

Always faithful.

The motto of the Marine Corps, lived out before me and members of my family, by my father, Cpl. Donald W. Pierce.

Taken from the USMC web site https://www.marines.com/life-as-a-marine/life-in-the-marine-corps/always-faithful-always-marine.html

It states:

As a Marine Veteran, you live the meaning of “Always Faithful” and demonstrate it on a daily basis in the way you care for your families, manage your careers and continue to win battles for those on your left and right.

When you first earned your eagle, globe and anchor, the spirit of our Semper Fidelis motto was fused into your DNA. Now as a Marine Veteran, the words “Always Faithful” still have a meaningful place inside you, guiding your actions in the communities you continue to serve.

As Marines, you’ve made a lasting impact on your Marine Corps being “Always Faithful.”

Always faithful to your God, family, and country.

To the God who gave you that “Happy Day” of salvation through His grace by Christ Jesus and eternal life.

For love and devotion to your spouse and children; provision, protection, and perseverance.

For serving and preserving the freedoms of your country and community.

The shepherd boy, who would be king. The slayer of the giant. The Psalmist whose heart was always seeking the Father God.

Wrote in Psalm 15 of the virtues of the righteous.

Psalm 15

David describes a citizen of Zion

A Psalm of David.

1 LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?

who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness,

and speaketh the truth in his heart.

3 He that backbiteth not with his tongue,

nor doeth evil to his neighbour,

nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned;

but he honoureth them that fear the LORD.

He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

5 He that putteth not out his money to usury,

nor taketh reward against the innocent.

He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

The way to heaven, if we would be happy, we must be holy. We are encouraged to walk in that way.

This a Psalm that speaks to one’s character, which is to be blameless, not sinless. It also speaks of living right, reflected in righteous conduct, and he concludes by pointing out the necessity of honest and truthful conversation.

Surely all traits of the one who is always faithful.

Dr. Warren W. Weirsbe summarized this passage as

“The application of these areas of life is specifically and practically discussed in verses 3-5a.

If we are right in these basic virtues, we will work them out in every area of life and be obedient to the Lord.

Noting the verbs “lead”, “do” And “speaking” are present tense verbs.

These/this indicates that the dedicated BELIEVER is constantly obeying the Lord and seeking to please HIM.”

I would remind us that this theologically speaking is sanctification; it is our walk led by the Holy Spirit to become more Christ like and to live holy and separated, obedient earthly lives before the Father.

And to do so requires us to “always be faithful”.
